The Fisherman

The Fisherman by John Langan

Grief is at the core of this story that brings the intimate and the cosmic together in a small town in upstate New York. The story follows two men that have lost loved ones and bond over shared grief through fishing. And then there’s a story within the story. Mourning and tragedy compound upon each other to summon horrors from the dark depths of the planet. Langan himself summons many of his predecessors in the horror genre to help him assemble a boldly crafted, highly effective narrative by drawing upon numerous influences and making something new and original. With an engrossing plot, interesting characters, and a steady pace, The Fisherman is a strong addition to the pantheon of horror.
