Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
Salt to the Sea recounts the journey of a group of people as they run from the horrors of WWII to the ill-fated Wilhem Gustloff. Sepetys has assembled a fine piece of work, combining an ensemble of fictional characters with the historicity of her narration. Salt to the Sea is a very engaging novel, with believable and empathetic characters. Sepetys paints a trail of light in the midst of darkness; a light that refuses to extinguish, enlivened by hope and sheer desire to survive.
