Saving Capitalism by Robert Reich
Robert Reich outlines what must be done to “save capitalism” from itself. But he spends most of the book explaining why it has to be saved, and once all that’s explained, the solution becomes clear. Reich takes a historical approach to describe the way capitalism has been abused by those with greater economic power to tip the scale in their favor through legislation. In short, the problem is not the rich, but the rich using that economic power to gain political power and, in turn, become even more powerful. He argues the debate between “big government” and “free market” doesn’t makes sense. There’s no such thing as a “free market” without government. As such, government should establish rules that are fair for everyone. It’s an excellent read and a compelling argument to vote for candidates that are not beholden to special interests.
